I just saw a post that said something like “98% of One Direction fans are screaming 12 year old’s that only like them because of their looks.” - This has pissed me off beyond belief.

I’m 17 years old, I’ll be 18 in November this year. I’ve been a Directioner for 7 months. I’m Australian. I became a Directioner just before What Makes You Beautiful was released.

The first video I ever saw of them was one of their video diaries from X Factor that was posted to Tumblr. That exact day, I watched every X Factor video I could find of theirs; performances, diaries, behind the scenes, etc. To be quite honest, the only one I found attractive was Louis because, I don’t know, he has this obvious popular hot guy look.

After I heard them sing Torn and Viva La Vida I fell in love with their voices. They brought a smile to my face, they reduced me to tears. After that, their personalities made me love them for them. They instantly became attractive to me after that.

From that day on, I’ve found out everything Directioners seem to know about them from their shoe sizes and heights to their favourite colour and their personal phobias and highlights. 

Before they came into my life, I suffered with depression for many different reasons. My dad had depression which brought my whole family down - that was the start of my own. My teachers picked on me for everything and gave me extra work so I began to stress out. In 2009 my parents divorced and in 2010 my dad got a new girlfriend. It is now 2012 and I have not spoken to my father since. I’ve tried to commit suicide 3 times, I used to cut and beat myself and I also starved myself many times.

These boys have kept a smile on my face for 7 months now and they never fail to cheer me up. I don’t even remember what depression feels like anymore because of them. They’ve saved my life. They mean everything to me.

Us Directioners, we all have our different stories as to why these boys mean everything to us so don’t sit their and tell us we only like them for their looks. You will be brought down by an entire family.
